I was surprised when today I followed a link from Lifehacker and came upon this information bar popup:

.

Is it really ok to let people add their own messages to the information bar in IE?

I am back in Edmonton after a vacation, still sick from the flu last week but ready to give my presentation on Generics in .NET 2.0 to the coding gods of Edmonton.

If you are a programmer, read my blog, and haven’t been out to any of the user group meetings yet, I invite you to come out to the .NET Wizards user group meeting tomorrow and meet some other geeks.

If you can’t make it to the meeting don’t worry. I am going to post a companion post on the content of my presentation here.

Identity 2.0 Presentation

Dick uses the Lessig Method of presenting to present on Identity 2.0 and I have to say it is pretty impressive and effective. This is probably the first time I have paid attention through a whole presentation. The downside is that Dick probably had to practice for a long time before being able to present.

Video Game Comics

Just for fun some cool video game comics. I liked the art more than the comics.

Here is a list of my favorite OOP books in the order they should be read if you are just learning object oriented programming.

1: Object Thinking by David West

2: Test-Driven Development in Microsoft .NET

3: Head First Design Patterns

4: Refactoring by Martin Fowler

5: Expert C# or VB.NET Business Objects

Tonight I installed the PSP Universal Remote on my PSP and it works great.

I was thinking of buying a Logitech Harmony remote but the PSP Universal remote works with my TV, Cable Box, and DVD player and has the ability to emulate the Logitech Harmony 655.

If you don’t have a PSP you should definetely get one, it can do tons of cool things like play movies, emulate old gaming systems, and can control your computer. The dev community around this device is awesome.

Sometimes when investigating certain functionality you may want to look at the Javascript that is running on a webpage, the good news is that with Visual Studio 2003 you can see all the running documents on any webpage. The webpage doesn't even have to be running locally.

To see all of the running documents open up Visual Studio 2003 and select Debug -> Processes.

Next choose the IExplore.exe process and select attach:

Check off Script and select Script in the box below. Hit Ok and then close:

Choose Debug -> Windows -> Running Documents

You can now see all of the running documents running on that page including js files. You can even select one of the js files and place a breakpoint in it and step through the code.

This is probably a well known tip but I just found out about it the other day from Tim Stall and have found it very useful. It is a great way to see if your changes to that js file are running in production.

I have been doing a bunch of presentations lately and I was pretty exicited when I found the Presentation Zen blog. There is a ton of great information for people that present or that are thinking of presenting. Unfortunately, I found out I am a victim of the “evil powerpoint style” of presenting and that a 9 year old is a way better presenter than I am.
